The Certified Residential Housing CounselorSM provides professional development and training for those providing education and counseling services related to homeownership. This comprehensive program was designed to conform to the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Housing Counseling Program Final Rules regarding education and counseling as well as to align with the Standards developed by the Advisory Council for the National Homeownership Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling. Certification ensures that individuals have been trained and tested in education and counseling techniques, as well as financial concepts pertaining to the homeownership process.

Course Outline

Part I details education and counseling techniques. Those completing the course will learn how to properly develop and deliver lesson plans that incorporate the many components that contribute to an effective and informative lesson.

Part II details the various stages of homeownership and issues relevant to each stage.

Part III discusses consumer protection legislation and housing legislation.

Part IV is the Resource Guide which includes worksheets, a glossary, forms, website information, the Code of Ethics and a practice exam.
